The Mustangs from Marygrove showed up a little late for the game today and the Golden Eagles took advantage by scoring three goals in the first six minutes of play today. Riley Steen scored her fifth goal of the season just two minutes into the game. Freshman Kerri Hoffman beat a couple of players around the top of the box and then passed a diagonal ball to her left by the onrushing GK to Steen who put the ball in the net. The Golden Eagles made it 2-0 just two minutes later when Steen beat players down the left side and then she dribbled straight across the box and slotted a ball to Kelley Ritsema that finished the shot with one touch into the far post for the goal. Maile Carigon then made it 3-0 in the sixth minute. Carigon took a pass from Steen and struck it into the left side of the goal from about 10 yards out. Cornerstone had some more chances in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net. Cornerstone out shot Marygrove 9-4 in the first half of play. The Golden Eagles started the second half much like the first with an early goal. Maile Carigon scored her second goal of the day and eighth of the season by winning a 50-50 ball with the keeper and then dribbled it into the goal. Cornerstone out shot the Mustanges 12-2 in the second half. Cornerstone improves to 13-2 on the season and 5-1 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will travel over to Davenport on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. game that has huge implications for the WHAC. Davenport will win the WHAC outright with a win or a tie. Cornerstone can share the title with a win at Davenport and another win against Madonna on Saturday.
