On Saturday, the Golden Eagles women's soccer team welcomes WHAC foe Marygrove to Cornerstone stadium.  Prior to the 4:30 p.m. kickoff, Cornerstone will honor its 10 seniors— Marissa Bliss, Kathy Butt, Paige Knott, Kelley Ritsema, Riley Steen, Anna Stegink, Morgan Vance, Jenna Wiersma, Rachel Wood, and Nicole Ybema

A Look at the Golden Eagles

Cornerstone currently sits in a three-way tie for second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier standings, sporting a 12-2 record overall and a 4-1 mark in conference action.  The Golden Eagles look to continue their win streak on Saturday, after going 4-0 in their last four matchups.  This past Wednesday, Cornerstone topped (RV) Siena heights, 2-0, at Cornerstone Stadium.

Midfielder Amanda Van Laar leads Cornerstone with seven goals on the season, followed by forward Maile Carigon with six.  Midfielder freshman Kerri Hoffman has dished out five assists this year to lead the Golden Eagles.  The freshman is tied for seventh in the WHAC in assists.  Goalkeeper Kathy Butt has started all 14 contests in goal for the Golden Eagles and holds a 1.240 goals-against average.  The netminder also has 50 saves on the year (.746 save percentage).

Scouting the Marygrove Mustangs

Marygrove enters Saturday's contest with a 6-8-1 overall record and a 1-4-1 posting in conference action.  Kaitlyn Vigna paces the Mustangs' attack with six goals and two assists on the season.  Deanna Lints has occupied the net for Marygrove this year, allowing a total of 30 goals.  Lints holds a 2.110 goals-against average, .735 save percentage and five shutouts.

What to Watch For

The Cornerstone University women's soccer team is having their best record since the 2006 season.  In 2006, the Golden Eagles posted a dominant overall 16-2-2 record and 11-0-2 conference action.  After Saturday, the squad will have key matches against (RV) Davenport and Madonna University to finish conference play.

Coming up Next

Cornerstone will face cross-town rival, Davenport, on Wednesday.  Davenport holds the top spot in WHAC standings and Cornerstone will look to hand the Panthers their first conference loss of the season.  Earlier in the season, the two teams met with Cornerstone getting the best of Davenport, 3-1.
