(North Manchester, Ind.)  On an ideal day for racing, the Cornerstone Women's Cross Country team easily defended their 2011 team title at the 40th Manchester Invitational, shattering the school record for team time.

While the host, Spartans and the Calvin College "B" teams set an aggressive pace through the first mile, the Golden Eagles followed with a pack of six. Just after two miles the course entered a wooded trail. The CU group went in positioned in the middle of the lead pack and came out in control of the race.

Over the final two kilometers Jill Louisignau and Julie Oosterhouse overtook the leader, Karla Madrigal of Manchester and opened an eight second gap at the finish. Louisignau defended her 2011 win in a new CU school record 23:06.1 Andi Owens set the previous mark of 23:16 in 2008. Oosterhouse also eclipsed the old standard finishing next Jill in 23:06.6.

Julia Contreras and Audrey Tremaine finished 5th and 6th with Contreras the senior lowering her PR by 55 seconds to 23:31. Tremaine was just five seconds off the freshman record with her 23:33 clocking.  CallyAnne Wyma made it five CU runners in the top ten with her 23:51 PR.

The top five combined for a team time of 1:57:09 which chopped 2:27 off the school record set at this meet in 2011.

Cornerstone matched their winning point total of 24 from their 2011 win with Manchester second, scoring 51, Calvin third with 60 followed by St. Mary's 103, Kalamazoo College at 136 and Olivet with 186.
