The Golden Eagles made the trip over to Detroit to take on WHAC newcomer Marygrove today. The Mustangs got on the board early by converting a penalty kick with just 7:45 gone in the game. Marygrove led 1-0 until late in the half when they were they were called for a penalty themselves. Matt Osorio converted the penalty kick with 4:37 left in the half to knot the score at 1-1. The Golden Eagles turned up the pressure in the second half and hit pay dirt just 2:10 into the half. Brian Nimmo took a Richard Moylan pass and scored to put Cornerstone up 2-1. The Golden Eagles continued to pressure the Mustangs and reeled off six straight shots in a six minute stretch but the Marygrove defense would not break. The Mustangs Jordan Berry hit a shot at 56:45 that Kyle Breckan saved but Marygrove won a corner kick off of the save. Berry then converted on the corner kick to tie the score at 2-2 with 57:16 on the clock. The Golden Eagles had a flurry of shots down the stetch and Richard Moylan hit the crossbar with 4:43 left in the game but Cornerstone couldn't get the game winner. The Mustangs dominated the overtime period getting off five shots and Jordan Berry ended the game by putting in rebound off a save from Breckan just 6:26 into the first OT. Berry has now tallied 16 goals on the season including three game winners. Cornerstone drops to 9-3-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the WHAC. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to play Lawrence Tech at 4:00 p.m.
