The Golden Eagles traveled down to Pontiac to take on Rochester College at Ultimate Soccer Arena today. Cornerstone out shot the Warriors 12-1 in the first half of play but they didn't score until 41:22 into the half. Amanda Van Laar
took a pass from Kerri Hoffman
and beat a defender to her left and unleashed a shot from outside the box into the upper left corner of the goal. Cornerstone had some very good chances in the first half but most of their shots were hit right to the Rochester goalkeeper. The second half was a little more of a game. Rochester got on the board with a shot from about 45 yards out that just got over GK Kathy Butt
's hands. The Golden Eagles created a couple more chances but the play of the game came with about 8 minutes to play when Maylani Siemasz
headed a ball off the line to keep the score tied a 1-1. The ball was hit from the side and went over Kathy Butt
's head and was going into the goal but Siemasz was positioned perfectly and headed the ball out. Cornerstone mounted a couple of attacks late as time wound down and the game looked to be headed for OT but Maile Carigon
scored the game winner with about 1 minute left in the game. Riley Steen
beat a couple of players down the right side and slotted the ball across the face of the goal to Carigon who hit the ball first time passed the Rochester keeper to secure the victory for Cornerstone. Cornerstone improves to 7-1 on the season and will return to action on Friday in their "Night of Nets" game against Grace Bible College at 7:00 p.m. Come out and support a great cause and watch the Golden Eagles.
