The Golden Eagles started out very well and created some very nice chances against Goshen tonight and they were paid off in the 17th minute when senior Kelley Ritsema
finished off a beautiful pass from Amanda Van Laar
to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Cornerstone played very well for the first 30 minutes of the half but then the Maple Leafs started to put more pressure on the Golden Eagles defense. Goshen was playing with the wind in the first half and they rattled the crossbar on a long range free kick late in the half. Cornerstone came out in the second half of play and scored in the first six minutes. Amanda Van Laar
dribbled by a couple of defenders and slipped in a nice through ball to Kerri Hoffman
and she finished with a one time shot past the Maple Leaf GK. Kelley Ritsema
got her second of the game in the 67th minute on a pass from Riley Steen
to make it 3-0 Golden Eagles. Cornerstone played well for the remainder of the half and they posted their first shutout of the season. Cornerstone improves to 6-1 on the season and will have the weekend off. They will return to action next Wednesday when they travel over to play Rochester College. That game will be played at Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac, Mich.
