The Cornerstone volleyball team begins the home portion of the 2012 schedule, Wednesday at 7 p.m. against WHAC foe Lourdes University. The Golden Eagles, facing the Gray Wolves, aim to open the home schedule with a win. 

Cornerstone and Lourdes both competed in the University of Michigan - Dearborn Tournament, on Aug. 24-25, with the Golden Eagles posting a 3-1 record while the Gray Wolves going 0-4 at the tournament. 

Cornerstone At A Glance

Last weekend the volleyball squad met two nationally ranked opponents in the Olivet Nazarene Tournament. The weekend began with an upset of No. 6 Embry-Riddle but ended by dropping a close, 3-2, match to No. 25 Georgetown College.  The Golden Eagles look to bounce back on Wednesday when they face a WHAC opponent. 

Quick Hits

-Cornerstone contests its home opener against WHAC opponent Lourdes University.

-Redshirt Senior Becky Albrecht was named WHAC Player of the Week, Monday.

-Cornerstone upsets No. 6 Embry-Riddle in the Olivet Nazarene Tournament.

-The team went to Aquinas and swept conference opponent for first WHAC game of 2012.

-The Golden Eagles are ranked 14th in the Nation for Kills per Game (13.420).

-The team was voted second in the WHAC Preseason Conference poll.

-The team was ranked No. 22 in the NAIA Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll.

Albrecht Named WHAC Player of the Week

Redshirt senior middle hitter Becky Albrecht had a standout week, leading the Golden Eagles with double-figures in kills during five matches, capped by a 14-kill match against No. 6 Embry-Riddle. Albrecht also tallied six digs and nine blocks during those five matches last week. 

Scouting the Gray Wolves

After a 3-0 loss to Siena Heights this past Saturday, the Lourdes Gray Wolves, 6-12, come to Cornerstone to improve their record. The Gray Wolves also look to tally their first win against a conference opponent. Lourdes is currently 0-1 in the WHAC with their loss coming to the hands of No. 17 Madonna University.
