After a successful day one of the Olivet tournament Friday highlighted by taking down No. 6 Embry-Riddle and Campbellsville University, Cornerstone aimed to repeat on Saturday. The squad swept Travecca Nazarene but Georgetown College had revenge against the Golden Eagles. Cornerstone finished the tournament with a 4-1 record pushing them towards a 7-2 overall record.
Earlier afternoon the Golden Eagles took care of Travecca Nazarene in three sets, 25-8, 25-21, 25-21. The victory pushed Cornerstone to a 7-1 overall record. The match highlighted a total of 39 team kills while having a team set high of .524 attack percentage in set one. Senior Becky Albrecht posted a team-high kills, hitting .667, while connecting for 10 kills. Kim Weaver notched 29 assists while Abby Miedema and Chelsea Lake collected 9 digs respectively.
Late afternoon, Cornerstone was caught in a tough match against No. 25 Georgetown College. Heading into the match, Cornerstone had a 5-game winning streak on the line as they took on a previous 2012 opponent. On August 25th Cornerstone matched up with the Tigers while the Golden Eagles came out victorious in five sets. However, Saturday's match ended differently than previously this season. Georgetown defeated Cornerstone in five sets, 25-13, 26-14, 15-25, 22-25, 18-16, giving Cornerstone their second loss of the season. However, both losses this season have come from top 25 teams. Highlighting the team was Weaver with 44 assists and three Golden Eagles with double digit digs including Miedema (24), Weaver (12), and Cailie Johnson (11).
The Golden Eagles will look to improve on their 1-0 conference record on Sept. 19. Cornerstone will host their first match of the 2012 campaign against WHAC foe, Lourdes College, on Wednesday. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
