Men's Soccer - Thu, Aug. 30, 2012
The reigning WHAC regular season champions began their 2012 campaign today and they came away with a 0-0 tie against the Eagles of Robert Morris University (Ill.). The Golden Eagles forced much of the action in the first half outshooting the Eagles 9-3 but they couldn't beat GK Milco Risteski.
Cornerstone would continue to pressure the Eagles goal throughout the second half as well with seven shots but none would find the back of the net. Jake Stanko did beat Risteski in the 8oth minute but his shot hit the left post and bounced out of the box out of danger for the Eagles. Stanko had another great opportunity late in the half but his shot went over the crossbar from close range. Robert Morris would only get two shots off in the second half of play. Both teams got quality chances off in the overtime periods. The Eagles almost ended the game early in the 2nd OT but GK Kyle Breckan
made a great save to his right to keep the Golden Eagles in the game. Cornerstone responded with a great chance right after that. Cornerstone moved directly down the field after that save and earned a corner kick. Brice Snellink
just missed a header wide left off of the corner kick. The Eagles outshot the Golden Eagles 7-4 in the OT periods but Cornerstone ended with a 20-12 advantage for the game. Cornerstone will return to action on Tuesday when they travel over to play Aquinas in a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
