Cornerstone University and head baseball coach David Mitroff are pleased to announce the signing of Bryan Espiritu, a right-hand pitcher and corner outfielder from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana. Bryan, a very young high school graduate (he recently turned 17), lives in Chicago, Illinois during the summers. Bryan throws from a low ¾ arm slot and his slider projects to be an out pitch at the college level. He will most likely be a pitcher here at Cornerstone, but he has a chance to contribute with his bat as well.
When asked about his choice to attend Cornerstone University, Bryan said, "I was seriously thinking of taking a year off from school. I thought I could compete better if I was the same age as everybody and I was a little nervous of the big university setting. At Cornerstone; the staff, especially the baseball coaches, turned this around. I felt at home immediately when I visited the school. More importantly, I know at Cornerstone I have people who believe in me and who will help me develop three very important aspects of my life: my mind, my spirit and my body. "
Baseball coach David Mitroff said, "Bryan is an outstanding young man who will be a great student-athlete here at Cornerstone University. He will have a chance to prove himself on the mound and at the plate this fall before we see where he performs best. We first saw Bryan in February at a showcase for unsigned seniors and we were very impressed. We expect great things from Bryan over the next four years here at Cornerstone."
