Indiana Tech had two hits in the 3rd which resulted in one run to cut the CU lead to 2-1. The Warriors tied it in the 5th on an RBI double by JC Plezbert. With the score at 2-2 after the 7th an extra inning was needed to decide the outcome. Cornerstone had 3 hits in the 8th with Kathy DeYoung getting a RBI single but three players were left stranded giving CU a slim 3-2 lead. Martika Armstead led off with a single for the Warrior and an RBI single by Patrice Suplicki tied the game at 3-3. With a player on 3rd a throwing error scored the winning run to give Tech the 4-3 win in the first game of a double header.
Heidi Warmelink struck out 9 batters in 7.2 innings and is 3-14 on the season. Sam Berrios had struck out 7 batters and is 8-11 on the season.
Neither team scored in the first two innings of the 2nd game of the double header. Kathy DeYoung started the 3rd inning with her first homerun of the season. Two more singles set up a 3 run homer by Heidi Warmelink to give CU a 4-0 lead. Indiana Tech followed up with 3 runs on 5 hits of their own in the bottom of the 3rd to trail by one run. In the top of the 5th Warmelink singled through the left field for another RBI scoring Jenna Weightman. The Warriors countered with 2 more runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 5-5. Megan Oberst hit a 2 run RBI double down left field. Ashley Neidermayer had an RBI triple and Bucilla followed up with a ground out RBI to give the Golden Eagles a 9-5 lead heading into the last at bat. The Golden Eagles held Indiana Tech scoreless in the last at bat to get the win and improve to 5-17 on the season and 1-1 in the WHAC.
Warmelink got the win with 3 stikeouts and 28 at bats and improved to 4-14 on the season. The Golden Eagles will host Aquinas on Wednesday, April 11th.
