(Tucson, Ariz.) The Golden Eagles faced #15 Olivet Nazarene
(Ill.) earlier in the trip and lost a close one (4-3) to the Tigers. Cornerstone went toe to toe with the Tigers
at the plate today but they committed five errors which led to four unearned
runs on the day. Olivet Nazarene got on
the board with two runs in the first inning and added one in the third and fifth innings to take a
4-0 lead into the sixth. The Golden
Eagles put up a run in the top of the sixth inning. Heidi Warmelink singled with one out and
eventually scored on a single by Madison Bucilla to make it 4-1 but the Tigers
would add some insurance in the bottom half of the innings bringing in three
more runs to make it 7-1 and that is how the game ended. Madison Bucilla had two hits and an RBI for
the Golden Eagles in the loss.
Cornerstone took on Robert Morris (Ill.) for the second time
on the trip in the late game. The Golden
Eagles committed a couple of errors in the first inning which led to two runs
for the Eagles. Cornerstone responded
with a run in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. Madison Bucilla hit an RBI single to bring in
Jenna Weightman for the run. Robert
Morris put up two more runs in the top of the third and one in the fifth to
make it 5-1. The Golden Eagles made it a
game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jenna Weightman and Tahni Bruno both hit
singles with one out and Heidi Warmelink knocked in Weightman with a single to
make it 5-2. Madison Bucilla followed
that with a single to plate Bruno to make it 5-3. Lauren Pasciak hit a fielder's choice to
advance all the runner's but Warmelink was put out at home. Kathy DeYoung drew a walk to score Kaitlyn
Carlson to bring Cornerstone to within one (5-4). Robert Morris added a run in the top of the
sixth to make it 6-4. Cornerstone got a
couple of runners on and advanced to 2nd and 3rd base but
they couldn't get them home in the sixth inning and the Golden Eagles went down
1-2-3 in the seventh. Jenna Weightman,
Tahni Bruno, and Madison Bucilla all had two hits on the day for Cornerstone.
The Golden Eagles will wrap up their Arizona trip with games
against Peru State (Neb.) and Patten (Calif.) tomorrow.
