Just 4 days ago the Golden Eagles defeated the Saints in 5 games and the rematch was no different. This time the Saint jumped out early and held off runs by CU and won the first two games 25-22, 25-22. The raucous 80's crowd was silenced and it appeared it was not the Golden Eagles night.
Coach Campbell and Coach VanderMeer made a few front line adjustments and it proved to be the difference. The Golden Eagles won the 3rd and 4th games 25-13, 25-15 to force the tie-breaker. CU jumped out in the 5th game 7-0 before the Saints got on the board and cruised to a 15-5 win. The Golden Eagles improved to 16-1 overall and the Saints fall to 12-7. NAIA National Player of the Week, Kim Weaver, had 10 kills, 32 assists and 10 digs. Abby Miedema led the team with 13 kills and 16 digs. Jodi Grandholm chipped in with 10 kills and 15 digs. Both teams had 10 blocks each with neither hitting a high percentage. CU had the edge hitting .167 for the match to Aquinas' .065.
Cornerstone will return once again to Mol Arena next week Wednesday, Oct. 5 for a 7pm showdown with #16 Madonna.
