Game 1 - Aquinas (3) vs.Cornerstone (2) in 8 innings

The Cornerstone Golden Eagles softball team entered the WHAC riding high as they have won 10 out of the last 12.If they could continue their hot streak they would win their way straight to the National Tournament in Gulf Shores, Alabama. To do so, they would have to begin by facing their cross-town rivals, the Aquinas Saints whom they defeated both times they played. The Golden Eagle's struck first in the bottom of the second.

Freshman phenomenon Heidi Warmelink began the inning with a single.Madison Bucilla followed with another single.Warmelink then stole third and she was knocked in by a sacrifice fly by Rachael Gruppen.CU scored again in the third inning when Tahni Bruno singled to left knocking in Lauren Pasciak.Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the Saints' pitcher Carlie Giarmo held CU to only 1 more hit the rest of the way as she pitched brilliantly. But Warmelink was equal to the task and kept the Golden Eagles in the game as the game went into extra innings.Disappointingly, the Saints scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as they strung together a couple of hits culminating with a single to right field by Torie Lowe knocking in Taylor Turcott. The final score was 3-2.The Golden Eagles would have to fight their way through the rest of the tournament in the Losers Bracket if they wanted to reach their goals.

Game 2 - Siena Heights (5) vs.Cornerstone (0)

The Golden Eagles faced WHAC foe Siena Heights in a critical elimination game.  The winner of the game would keep their National Tournament dreams alive.Sadly for the Golden Eagles their season ended with a 5-0 loss.Siena pitcher Katie O'Hotzke stymied the CU hitters as she scattered 4 hits over 7 innings.Cornerstone's Madison Bucilla started the game but suffered the tough-luck loss as she gave up 1 run in 3 innings. Siena added 2 insurance runs in the fifth and another 2 runs in the sixth.CU ended the season with a 23-15 record.Seniors Jessica Kuhlman and Melanie Creager along with freshman Heidi Warmelink were named all-conference.Coach Jim Farrell was also named WHAC Coach of Character.
