Men's Basketball - Tue, Oct. 30, 2012

The Men's Basketball team recently signed Joey Blauwkamp for the 2013-14 recruiting class.  Blauwkamp is Cornerstone's second player to sign early with the Golden Eagles.  Forest Hills Northern star Michael McLaughlin committed to CU back in August of this year.

Blauwkamp, a 6-1 guard, has been a two-year starter for Tri-unity. He led his team to the
2011 Class D State Championship as a sophomore. During that campaign, he averaged 11.5 PPG to go along with his 7.1 RPG and 3.6 steals/game.  His 96 steals that season set a school record at TC.  Blauwkamp was named River Valley 1st Team All-Conference for his efforts.  He also shot 51% from the floor while handing out 2 APG. Blauwkamp scored 16 points and had 5 steals in the state championship game for TC.

As a junior, Blauwkamp established himself as one of the best players in the area and in the state. He was named to several all-state teams including the AP 1st Team All-State, BCAM 1st Team All-State and Bankhoops 1st Team All-State. Blauwkamp was also named to the Grand Rapids Dream Team and earned River Valley All-Conference honors for the second consecutive season.  He averaged 12 PPG while shooting 53% from the floor.  Blauwkamp led the Defenders with 3 APG and 2.9 steals/game.

Blauwkamp has been equally as successful in the classroom where he has earned a 3.8 GPA.  BCAM also honored Blauwkamp by selecting him to its All-State Academic Team in 2012.

Coach Elders on Joey:  "We're thrilled to have Joey join our program.  He's a class act and puts his whole heart into everything he does.  He's a winner. On the court, Joey is a terrific player.  He's what we call a playmaker – he's always in the right place making positive plays for his team on both ends of the court.  Joey plays the game the right way.  You never have to question his effort.  Nobody plays the game harder than he does.  His specialty is on the defensive end of the court. He can shut down the opponent's best player.  Joey gets a lot of steals, rebounds the ball and takes a lot of charges. On offense, there's not too many players that have his speed, especially with the ball.  He has a tremendous knack for getting into the paint and creating scoring opportunities for his teammates."

Joey on why he chose Cornerstone: "Cornerstone has always been high on my list of possible colleges.  I wanted to play basketball in college and I believe that Cornerstone is the best fit for me.  I'm excited and thankful for the opportunity to play and be a student at Cornerstone."
