The Golden Eagles hosted 4-9 Siena Heights tonight and they got a good start against the Saints running out to a 13-4 lead with the help of the long ball.  Ben Lanning made a couple and Travis Wells dropped in a 3-pointer in the first 2 ½ minutes of play.  Cornerstone kept the lead around 9 for the next five minutes and had a 20-11 lead with 12:35 left in the half.  The Saints then made an 8-0 lead over the next 2 ½ minutes to cut the lead to 20-19 and then tied the score at 22-22 at 8:48.  Cornerstone then gradually pulled away from the Saints and hit their largest lead 38-28 with :39 seconds left.  Stone Beckwith hit a 3-pointer as the half came to a close so Cornerstone went into the locker room with a 38-31 lead.   The Saints made a 7-2 run to start the second half and cut the lead to 2 (40-38) at 16:08 but Cornerstone responded with a 14-4 run capped off by a Travis Wells triple to put the Golden Eagles up 54-42 with 10:33 left in the half.  The Saints then started cutting into the Golden Eagle lead and got it down to 64-61 with 5:29.  The game became a foul fest down the stretch and Cornerstone scored 10 of their last 14 points from the line.  Wes Hudson made eight of those points from the charity stripe.  Wes Hudson led Cornerstone with 28 (16 of which came at the line) points. 


Neither team shot great from the floor.  Cornerstone made 42.9% of their shots from the floor while Siena Heights made just 41.4% of their shots.  The Saints made only 19 of their 32 fouls shots and missed a good many on the front end of one and ones.  Cornerstone made 30 of 39 (76.9%) from the foul line.


Cornerstone will travel over to Davenport to take on the Panthers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.  That game is the NAIA Game of the Week featuring #6 Cornerstone against 13th ranked Davenport.  Davenport won the first meeting 81-80 at Cornerstone.
