Cornerstone University and head baseball coach David Mitroff are pleased to announce the signing of Ben Schaap, a right-handed pitcher from West Ottawa High School in Holland, Mich. As a junior, Ben piled up numerous accolades including being named The Holland Sentinel "Player of the Year." As a senior, Schaap went 6-2 with a 1.63 E.R.A. and 74 strikeouts in 64 innings to earn 1st Team All-District honors for the second straight season.
When asked about his choice of Cornerstone University, Ben said, "I really like everything that the school stands for, and the direction that the baseball program is heading. My hopes on the field are to win, and be the best player I can be. Off the field, I'm hoping to get an amazing education."
Coach Mitroff said, "Ben is a great addition to our program and pitching staff. We believe that he has the ability to contribute on the mound immediately and we are excited to see him succeed. He has experienced a lot of success in high school and has been relied upon in some big moments. We hope that his experience and leadership will pay dividends for our university and baseball program."
