ALLENDALE (2/9) Louis Falland lost his first race of the season on the second day of the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. After finishing second to Southern Illinois' Zach Dahleen, Falland consoled himself with the satisfaction of another school record. The Australian's time of 1:53.23 shaved 2/100th off the old mark set in 2006 by Derek Scott.
The 800 meters was showcase event for the Golden Eagles as Zach Yeo finished sixth with a personal best and NAIA automatic qualifying time of 1:55.40. Altogether, six Golden Eagles ran under the 2:00, the first time that feat has been accomplished in program history. Behind Yeo, Zach Bourdon was 17th in 1:56.85, Tyler Grey, 30th in 1:58.98, Jared Holmberg set a PR, 1:59.29 in 32nd and Thomas Bambach snuck in at 1:59.92 taking 39th.
Jared Courtright had enough left after the 5,000 meters on Friday to lower his best mile time to 4:22.53, placing twelfth out of 49.
Travis Mabe and Ben Foreman added personal bests in the 3000 meters. Mabe clocked 8:49.72 for 26th while Foreman finished 47th in 9:12.17.
The team travels to Angola, IN next Saturday for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Indoor Championship meet.
